Today is Painful

Today is painful because I can feel God’s heart break as a country created in His name has continued to draw farther from Him.

Today is painful because people I love hate my God because they think He hates their gay friends.

Today is painful because I see this world fall more and more with each passing day, intentionally turning away from a God who loves them so much it cannot be fathomed.

I have spent my time today reading articles and Facebook posts that are praising same-sex marriage advocates and condemning Christians. My heart breaks at the response to this decision.

I understand their pain, their struggle and even their hatred for those “Christians” who spend their time damning homosexuals and telling them their lives are worthless. My heart hurts because those people who are being victimized believe all Christians feel that way.

That could not be less true. And this is why today is so painful.

The love of Christ transformed me the minute I asked Him to take the throne as my Savior. I have lived a sinful life and I will continue to sin until I die. I’m human and that’s just how we’re made. BUT the difference is, I have hope for a future because I know and fully believe that Christ’s death on the cross and resurrection have overcome the grasp of death and sin. I am free because He loved me enough to die and rise again.

This kind of transformation is available to anyone who is willing to accept it. He can melt a heart of stone. He alone can erase the pain of an abusive past. Only He can break the chains of a life-crippling addiction. He can when we can’t. Nothing we can say or do will ever change the heart of another person. We can make them listen. We can make them understand. We can make them more conscious of their mistakes and efforts. But we cannot change their hearts. Only Jesus can do that.

“Lord, now indeed I find
Thy pow’r, and Thine alone,
Can change the leper’s spots,
And melt the heart of stone.”

Our being against the institution of gay marriage will not change a thing. However, our showing the unconditional love of Christ to everyone could lead to some major transformation.

This world was plagued by sin almost as quickly as it was created. We do not have the ability to live sinless lives. All we can do is call on the Lord to guide us, glorify Him in all we do, and share His love with everyone we meet.

I’m tired of fighting, so I’m hitting my knees in prayer instead. I cannot heal this world or the people in it. This is a God thing. All we can do is pray for revival, show the love we’ve been given, and stay out of the way.

“Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.” 1 Corinthians 16:13-14
